I just caught Icarus Witch at the show in Clifton, NJ. What a GREAT time! Before the show I had a really cool thing happen. My friend and I were near the bar when one of the roadies was opening up a box of t-shirts and copies of the new CD. I asked him if I could buy one and he told me I had to wait a little while. Just then, Jason Myers came over and handed me a copy of Draw Down The Moon! If that wasn't enough, just before they went on, I saw Matthew walk on stage. I called him over and handed him my CD and he autographed it for me! How cool is that! The band were tight and sounded awesome. My buddy and I didn't even stay for Paul Di'Anno, we just went to see the Witch! Now we are both full blown fans! Next time they tour, I hope that they headline the show so that they can have the time to play more tunes!

Lamours in Staten Island

Excellent show. Really enjoyed the set and the energy. Its possible that I may drive out to Cleveland all the way from NJ just to catch Icarus Witch and Candlemass in the same show. If that PA Trouble show wasn't on a weekday I would go to that also.

Jason, it was great to meet you, I am really enjoying the new CD. Not the greatest by any means, but taken from a fans perspective, it's interesting.

Saw a bit of us in Germany on that site too. I'm addicted to YouTube now. Type in "Family Ghost" BAM there it is. Before I continue any further, know that I don't remember setlists well at all. If you want to see the setlist, Jason or someone else who attended the show will have to provide it. That said...

I do know that the setlist started with "Storming the Castle," and it got the crowd excited. IW played more songs from Capture the Magic and Roses on White Lace before finally getting around to some stuff from the new album. At the end, they played Judas Priest's "You've Got Another Thing Coming," which everybody loved.

I truly enjoyed watching Quinn play a long guitar solo for the purpose of showcasing his abilities. First of all, his hair looks magic when he whips it about. Second, the man can SHRED! He plays very intricate melodies at high-speed and makes them sound powerful and emotional. That combined with his long, shiny hair shipping about in the air astounds the audience.

Chris has great drumming skill and knows how to manipulate the set for a variety of sounds. I especially enjoyed his performances of "Forevermore" and "Queen of Lies" because of the intensity and skill required to play those songs, although the drum parts often go unnoticed. He's a great choice for Icarus Witch, and I feel lucky to have seen him perform live.

Matthew has a great live sound and strong stage presence. He gets into character for live sets. One can notice the difference between his stage persona and his personality off-stage. While performing, he acts like a dark, powerful wizard about to cast a spell on the innocent listener. His theatrical performance set him apart from the average frontman.

Jason's bass performance never ceases to amaze me. His fingers move just as much as a guitarist's, and he knows how to scale the fretboard and position his hand for the best sound. His fingers move so smoothly around the strings! I enjoy hearing how beautiful the parts sound because of their inherent intricacy and/or complexity. In an age when many bass parts rely on pedaling around a few notes and sound boring, his parts sound beautiful and interesting even when played alone.

I must leave the computer for now, so I will post any further details or experiences later.

Icarus Witch's European Experience

How will it/did it go for yinz guys? ;) How was the reception? Absolutely nothing wrong with that of course, because it's always good to get the exposure when you can. I guess I am wondering if you have any plans to do a true tour, at least on the east coast. It would be great to see on the front page of your site a tour itinerary with a bunch of club dates listed, and IW either an opener or a headliner.

Maybe after the next record is completed something like that might come along. 'Twould be great to see, and maybe I might have a better shot at catching a show.

Icarus Witch at the Continental!

I've just come home from seeing the Witch in downtown Manhattan, and I was absolutely blown away. I knew these guys were good from listening to their album, but I was not prepared for the power and grandeur that was to meet me this night. They began the set with Winds of Atlantis, which I had not had the pleasure of hearing before. It got the mood going before they segwayed into a roaring performance of Storming the Castle, and they owned the place from that moment on.

Other highlights were Soothsayer and Forevermore, although the whole performance was so near perfect it's nearly impossible to pick out high points. All the musicians were in top form, especially Matthew, whose vocal technique I didn't fully appreciate until witnessing its power and range firsthand. I got to exchange a few words with him after their set, which was exciting in and of itself. And I got a t-shirt, of course.

It was a remarkable experience, getting to see this band whose debut album has been occupying so much of my time in the couple of months it's been since I found it on a store shelf and decided to give it a go, just for fun. Icarus Witch has a grand destiny in store, and I'm thankful I was able to see them in person in their early days. Please come back to NYC; you have devoted fans here and will make many more.

3 Inches Of Blood, Icarus Witch, Early Man & Bad Wizard

It was a fun show. The bands were really cool to hang with & watch. Everyone was late (including the Witch) and since the club had a goth night starting at midnight, all the bands had to play short sets. But we roll with the punches and deliver the best show we can under any circumstances and managed to have a fun and productive trip to Buffalo, New York.

We ended up driving home after 3IOB's set so by the time we got back to Pittsburgh & unloaded, some of us had been up for over 24 hours including 4 set ups & break downs of the gear, 10 hours on the road and a short, potent set of metal performance.

Isn't life grand?

Just added, NY with 3 Inches Of Blood and other shows!

Hello, if you take a look at our myspace page, you'll see several shows have been added including one I just found out about a few minutes ago:
July 28 at Club Diablo in Buffalo, NY with Roadrunner Recording artist 3 Inches Of Blood
also getting behind in updates with so much going on, but notice our 2nd date added in Germany in July along with the August dates in Allentown at the Sterling Hotel and the Pirates Den in Gloucester, NJ with Deadly Blessing.

No rest for the wicked (that's us)

Icarus Witch & Yngwie Malmsteen, May 11 in Pittsburgh!

This 21 + show is going to be a neo-classical shred fest at Mr. Small's Funhouse in Millvale (info@mrsmalls.com)

Doors are at 7, we go on at 7:45

We're selling discounted, advance tickets for $20 (no BS Ticketmaster fees). A moderate sized club known as Camelot has recently been the host to weekly metal events featuring such diverse metal acts as Oct. 31 to Mastermind, etc. Last night's annual Saturday evening metal show was truly a classic representation of true heavy metal! Icarus Witch from Pittsburgh, PA headlined last nights fest. Openers Widow(NC) and Goat Horn (Canada) kicked ass live.

Widow up until recently were fronted by arather annoying female vocalist. Thankfully the metal Gods intervened and she is no more! The four piece split vocals between both guitrists, which worked out well live. They sounded terrific-traditional heavy metal with some neo-classical elements in the mix. My only complaint was that there set was too short due to sound difficulties. Next up was Canada's seminal ledgendary metal gurus-Goat Horn. This Canadian three-piece are the very essence of a power trio live-they were tight and played with utter conviction. I was blown away by this lot, a band to keep an eye on in the future! The headlinners-Icarus Witch took the stage admist fog machines and various sized human cranums adorning their amps. Their stage set reminded me of Overkill back in 1984! I.W. are by far the most prof. traditional/power metal group from the states. Hands down these guys are prof. and sound exactly like their amazing ful llength and MCD live.

Overall an amazing true metal night at a rather unique medieval concert hall setting. It was personaly dissheartning to witness this amazin gig with only about 50 people in attendance. (ed: official count, 85) Where are all the local metal fans hidding these days? I can see all three of these bands tearing up Europe and beyond, it is a pity that they face a similar fate of most traditional metal groups in the year 2005 on our American shores-obscurity. Stay true and heavy folks. Cheers.

John / aka Zero The Hero

Germany?

I believe you have some German Festival dates this summer...
